Same Day ACH DebitsSep 08, 2017
THIS AFFECTS EVERYONE WITH A CREDIT UNION OR BANK ACCOUNT
You may have been seeing some buzz about same-day ACH debits, which will be in effect for all financial institutions beginning Sept. 15. Updates to how the Federal Reserve will be processing ACH debits will result in transactions posting the day they are initiated. Currently, credit transactions are posted to financial institutions multiple times a day, while debit transactions are only posted once per day. With the new rule, debit transactions will be posted multiple times per day.
Consumers are usually prepared for some lag-time between the transaction being made and the money leaving their bank account. With same-day ACH debits, this will no longer be the case. For example, if you pay any bills using your routing and checking account number, the funds could be cleared from your account before 5 p.m. the same day.
A FEW TIPS:
- ACH payments should not be scheduled when sufficient funds are not already in your account to cover those amounts. Always make sure there is enough money in your account before making a payment.
- Don’t assume funds will clear your account the day after a purchase or payment. Get in the habit of planning for the funds to clear at the time a purchase or payment is made.
- If you have automatic drafts, such as an electric bill, cable bill, phone bill, etc., this would be a good time to verify with your service provider the effective date of payment (what date the payment will be deducted from your account).
Finex Credit Union has no control over when transactions post to your account. This depends on the company accepting the payment and when they process their transactions for the day. If you have any questions about same-day ACH transactions, please don't hesitate to contact us at email@example.com
